31st July 2024 The HR Confidence Club - Purpose
I am really hoping The Club is of use to some of you, and you are networking, getting some reassurance you are not alone. In the words of Michelle Hartley, hopefully you are 1% more confident each time there is a post, or session held. Any and all feedback is really helpful for me to consider to make sure this group is a success, and helping you. I feel it is much needed but you tell me!
Please do share the private group on LinkedIn with friends and colleagues if you think they would benefit from it (Link below).
As you will have seen, I have been able to get a series of free inputs from kind and generous souls who also believe in the ethos of our Club:
🌟in June, we had the fabulous Michelle Hartley from People Sorted and the HR Geek Squad giving us a free session - Finding Your Authentic Self. If you have seen Michelle you will know it went down a storm! with her tips for progressing towards a more confident you.
🌟This month we had the very lovely Danielle Wood from BelongingBase provide us with her insights as to 'What's holding you back?!' A great overview of our inner voices, along with some activities to channel in and explore them more. We learnt to channel what they are telling us, and whose influence that may be. Danielle is going to run another session, check our her profile page on LinkedIn for more information.
By realising you won't be liked by everyone, you get to be 100% you - Lisa Johnson
CONFIDENCE, COFFEE & CONNECT SESSIONS
Self-Doubt
This time last week I was doing final preparation on my self-doubt session for the second Confidence Coffee & Connect virtual meet. The first session in June was a virtual network, and opportunity to chat and connect. Feedback during the session suggested that themed sessions may be better, along with more opportunity to network in smaller groups.
Listening to the feedback and comments self-doubt was discussed, and so for our second session I developed a self-doubt session.
During the session we explored why we have a lack of confidence in ourselves and in our abilities. I compared this to the definition of self-confidence and realised how similar they are, however particularly focussing upon our of feelings of trust in our abilities and judgement
It was a really engaging group, talking about compassion fatigue, being empathy dumped upon; the connection between heavy workloads and confidence, and that inability to see how well we are doing whilst juggling so many balls. Funnily enough I said to my colleague yesterday morning, it's not because of a lack of competence, it's because we only have 2 hands!
When I think about my own self-doubt it still comes over me at times. Do I know what I am doing? am I doing the right thing? Am I helping? I don't think that any of us have all of the right answers all of the time, and we just do our best with what we have. However I do now, have much more belief in my abilities, and trust myself more than in 2019 when I was at my lowest ebb.
My view is, people will judge us no matter what, whether we are perfect or not, they judge us by their standards framed by their experiences and their exposures. Not ours, that is not possible, so stand tall and believe in your skills, experiences and abilities.
We know ourselves better than anyone else in the world, so why to we doubt ourselves?! - Sarah Venables
BURNOUT
I have been following Kelly Swingler – The Burnout Queen for a while and love her work. I watched her fabulous talk, if you haven’t seen it click this link
How to watch out for burn out (before it's too late) - YouTube
Kelly talks about her own burnout, and explores an exercise experiencing a little bit of the feeling of burnout and the feeling of being drained of energy. It is a great realisation of what happens to us on a daily basis. Kelly then helps us to get our energy back, and tips and strategies for being more aware of, and for avoiding burnout.
She also has a free burnout assessment tool you can complete The Complete Burnout AssessmentKelly Swingler | The Burnoutologist

30th June 2024 The HR Confidence Club - Purpose
We are nearly 2 month's old today, over in The HR Confidence Club!!! (On LinkedIn)
I started The Club, determined to facilitate the coming together of HR Professionals, those of us who need some additional support as a result of our confidence being knocked.
What is Self-Confidence
“A Belief or assurance in oneself, trusting one's abilities, judgements, or decisions, either in general or in relation to a specific situation or activity” Oxford Dictionary
The Club aims to provide a safe place to talk all things related to self-confidence, helping to reignite confidence, and to help the re-empowerment of our belief in our abilities, enabling us to be our fullest and truest selves. The private group on LinkedIn aims to provide useful hints, tips, strategies for each other in our roles. With the aim of enabling networking, the sharing of resources, guides, quotes and maybe some little sessions etc.
As you will have seen, I have been able to get a series of free inputs from kind and generous souls who also believe in the ethos of our Club:

PRIDE
We are at the end of Pride Month now, I hope those of you who celebrate it had a fabulous month. I believe it is important to talk about these events especially this one as it is an annual celebration of the many contributions made by the LGBTQ+ community to history, society and cultures worldwide. In most places, Pride is celebrated throughout the month of June each year in commemoration of its roots in the Stonewall Riots of June 1969.
Where I work, the LGBTQ+ staff network has asked their allies to show our support, and let the know why we are an Ally.
I am proud to be an Ally. I have many friends and family who are LGBT and I love them dearly.
I am a long standing advocate for marginalised people. I believe strongly in fairness, equality, happiness, and joy. I will stand against bullying, harassment, victimisation and injustice. I will challenge oppression and discrimination always.
I truly believe that love is love, not in the hallmark cliché but in its purity & truth.
Learning about LGBTQ+ history and challenges, may enable greater understanding, compassion, and empathy towards LGBTQ+ people, and if you can’t, always be kind.
Coming up in July
🌟We have the wonderful Danielle Wood from Belonging Base providing us with a free session on Wednesday 3rd July at 1:15pm to guide us through 'What's holding you back?!'
🌟On the 24th July at 12pm we will have another Confidence, Coffee & Connect session.

A little about me
I am a 43 year old HR, People & Culture Specialist, with 23 years’ experience, and a passionate advocate for marginalised and under-represented groups. I believe strongly that no one should have to experience poor treatment, disadvantage, discrimination, bullying, harassment, or victimisation because of the colour of their skin, their gender, disability, or due to the person they are attracted to or chose to love. I will not stand for bullying, unfairness or injustice.
Why I am doing what I am
Having experienced severe low confidence in 2019, and more recently last January 2023 where I was at a crossroads in my life, deeply unhappy wondering if HR was for me, and deeply unhappy with myself. I decided to take control of how I was feeling, and I went through a period of self-development and personal growth. As a result of this development work, the increase in my confidence and positive changes in my life since this work, I want to help to facilitate the building of confidence within other HR professionals who may be feeling emotionally lost, low, frustrated by life, or at a crossroads and unsure where to turn for help.
Quals and experience
I have a 1st class honours degree in Management Studies; an Advanced Diploma (L7) in Human Resource Management (HRM); a Masters degree in HRM. I have undertaken bespoke masterclass courses to stay current in Business Partnering; accepted onto the 1st cohort of the CIPDs’ Future People Leaders Programme; and in addition, currently studying a L7 Diploma in Life Coaching. I strongly believe my personal and professional background makes me the ideal person, for you to safely explore what’s holding you back in your role.
